Training program brings technical instructions on avocado growing

Next Wednesday (03), at 9 am, this fruit, which has been occupying more and more space on the table of Brazilians, will be the theme of another edition of the Training in Tropical Fruits event. The lecture will be conducted by Embrapa Cerrados researcher Tadeu Graciolli. The transmission will be via the Embrapa’s YouTube Channel and the Embrapa Cerrados’s Facebook page.

In recent years, the demand for technical information on the commercial cultivation of avocado has grown. The area cultivated with avocado (Persea americana Mill) is expanding in Brazil and worldwide. The proof of the important functional properties of avocado pulp and oil, and its increasingly diversified use in gastronomy, has stimulated an increase in consumption by the population.

The technical lecture will cover important topics for the rational exploration of commercial orchards for the production of avocado, such as planning stages, main cultivars for domestic and foreign markets, floral biology, edaphoclimatic requirements, seedling production, installation of field culture and spacing for planting, fertilization and nutrition, irrigation, main pests and diseases and crop management.

The Training program for Tropical Fruit Growing is carried out by Embrapa Cerrados, Emater-DF and the Federal Superintendence of Agriculture DF (Mapa), in partnership with Emater-MG, Emater-GO, Senar and the Fruit Growing Route of the Integrated Development Region of the Federal District and Surroundings (Ride).
