Brazil can reach a new record with fruit exports

A favorable climate and less external competition boost prices.

The Brazilian fresh fruit industry is heading for a record year in export revenues, driven by the higher price paid for exported fruit in 2023. According to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), the revenue forecast for this year has the potential to surpass the US$1.1 billion achieved in 2021, setting a new record.

Although partial export volumes in 2023 are below the historical levels of 2021, the expectation is that the increase in average prices (in dollars) will compensate for this drop.

Cepea researchers indicate that the scenario for record revenue in 2023 is directly related to the increase in the average price (in dollars) paid for fruits. This is attributed to the favorable climate in Brazil, better logistical conditions, and, mainly, less external competition. Brazil stands out as one of the few countries capable of maintaining production throughout the year, providing fruit supply at times when other suppliers face impaired production and/or are in the off-season.
